….I apologize.  It’s a simple set of habits that are hard to be disciplined about and as such hard to implement consistently.

Let’s review the three habits:

1. Less is more. Just have one or two priorities to focus on at a given time.  Priorities that will move the company forward.  In addition to the daily process of running the business.

2.  Have a metric or two on the priorities in #1, so that you can track progress on them and make sure you complete them

3.  Have a meeting rhythm centered around the priorities as well as around running the business that drives collaboration and execution.  Daily Huddles, and Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Meetings.

So why is this so difficult when it seems so simple?

The Habits work best in the context of a strategy.  A long term strategy, that is updated quarterly, adjusted monthly, and executed weekly and daily.

The strategy has to be founded on your Core Values, Core Competencies, and Purpose.  The Long Term Goals (BHAG) and your Brand Promise have to be focused on the real needs of customers.

This requires a strategic plan.  The strategic plan defines context.  I suggest using the One Page Strategic Plan(tm).

The plan defines the priorities, metrics and meeting rhythm.  The plan brings alignment that creates growth.

Without a good plan (notice I didn’t say perfect) you won’t figure out the priorities.

Context brings Clarity that can be supported by the Rockefeller Habits.
